My spouse and the the so-called “Wife Acceptance Factor” (WAF) were the motivation behind me creating this website. For as long as we have been enjoying our home theater system, there has been a problem with understanding the dialog coming from our center channel speaker. I researched this problem amongst my friends who have home theater systems ranging from cheap HTIB (Home Theater In-a-Box) systems to more expensive surround sound systems. Then I browsed the internet and found numerous examples in audio/video or home theater blogs where consumers were experiencing the same problem. Finally, I discovered that there is a simple yet inexpensive solution to that problem!
This led me down the path of discovering that the same acoustic principles that make hard-of-hearing folks struggle with understanding dialog clearly, especially when they are in a noisy environment, applies to both loudspeaker and hearing aid technology. More about this and other natural sound breakthroughs will be explored on this site.
After visiting numerous high fidelity and home theater blog sites I rarely encountered the term “discreet” applied to audio or loudspeakers. So, this informational site was created to allow a review of the technology and products that truly qualify as discreet loudspeakers plus an interchange of ideas and comments about each category and post that is made.
Although small, unobtrusive speakers are sometimes labeled “discreet” or “lifestyle”, they are generally no more than computer speakers or cheap, little surround “cube” speakers. So-called (and often self-anointed) audio experts are notorious for dissing this classification of audio gear - dubbing them unworthy of their consideration as audiophile quality products. Their mindset dictates that it is just plain impossible that any small speakers can measure up to tower or panel speakers - the only way to produce “big sound.” Even “bookshelf” is a lowly type of speaker that quickly gets their noses up in the air.
But here, and possibly for the first time, it will be revealed that a clear, natural sounding loudspeaker that also meets and exceeds all WAF compliance parameters does exist and is now available at reasonable costs. Is not the ultimate goal that we all seek is a system for the consumer with hi-fidelity sound at affordable prices - meaning a few hundred dollars rather than several thousand? Is achieving that combination an improbability with existing loudspeaker technology? Read on! THERE IS SOMETHING NEW AND PROVEN that breaks through that wall of denial and improbability.
Many if not all high-end loudspeaker manufacturers claim that their product reveals natural sound and the goal of attaining the highest resolution in sound has already been achieved. But let’s face the facts: even with elaborate technical specifications and graphs offered up as evidence, more often than not their claims are proven false in revealing and extended listening tests. Why? Because it has been discovered that natural sound is rarely ever reproduced (even in very expensive high-end speakers) without…
- compromising or limiting the options of speaker placement,
- restrictions on speaker alignment toward the listener,
- restriction of the ideal listening location to a single “sweet spot”,
- boomy and unresolved bass reproduction
- tracing the source of music to a box rather than a soundstage with accurate instrument and vocalist imaging
I encourage you to visit with us often and, please, share your thoughts at the end of each post with your comments.
